About Trax

Australian Cattle Dog / Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Trax is a playful, confident, and loyal companion. He has boundless energy and intense focus. He is a fast learner, loves to learn and do new tricks. He also loves to cuddle and be close. In fact, Trax almost always has a paw or leg touching his people when he's relaxing. Trax is boundary protective and takes his job very seriously. He considers himself the protector of the family pack, patrols the yard and will call immediate attention to noise or other animals outside. He also looks for opportunities to slip outside to be near his humans, but if not contained in the yard, house or on a leash, Trax will go after dogs passing by. Trax is working on his fear and leash aggression while on walks, which he displays through lunging and growling toward other dogs. He is in training using the CARE protocol so he and his people can manage this behavior better. Trax would be a loving, side-by-side companion for anyone who is able to manage his training and needs. Trax is excited to meet new people, but it takes a little time for them to earn his trust. He likes to go wherever his people go, whether that's for a ride in the car, upstairs, downstairs, or in the yard. Trax loves to chase the ball when he's in the mood. He especially loves soccer balls, but is a bit stubborn and won't always bring it all the way back. Trax is a good runner and has amazing stamina. At the park, he likes the agility implements. His favorite trick to to jump into the barrel. He'll jump over the bar, go over and back on the a-frame, he'll jump through the low hoops. He loves to run and chase with other dogs when on neutral territory. What Trax really loves most is praise and connection with people. Trax thrives on routine and a predictable schedule. He loves doing tricks to get his treats. He knows: circle (rotate right), twirl (rotate left), roll over & other way (roll opposite direction), (gentle) high 5 (left paw), knuckles (right paw taps fist), BANG! (play dead), settle (basically the same thing as play dead but is a way to calm him), treat on the nose, head down (when we tell him to settle, but just lays down so we have to get him all the way down). He's pretty sharp. Trax is also really sweet. He loves lap time and pets. When we take him camping, he expects lap time in the camp chair around the fire. He loves being on guard and ready to protect his pack If you are interested in adopting Trax, please fill out our adoption application http://aussierescuesandiego.org/foster-and-volunteer/adoptionapplication/ and we will forward it to his owner.
