About Max

Adoption Fee: $200
Bichon Frise / Poodle
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This little guy is a bundle of crazy, fun and love in a small little package. Max is a 3 year old, male. Best guess is he's Bichon and poodle mix. This little guy has some energy and wants to play but has also grown to be very cuddly. He likes to be right next to his people. He's full of playful energy but also lazy once playtime is over. He will need firm consistent training to succeed in his new home. See below for details. Max has been good with other dogs. He likes to play. He has not met any cats that we know of. He does good on the leash with minor pulling when excited and he's great in the car. He is crate trained but has some separation anxiety when you first leave him. He is mostly potty trained and the accidents he has had all seem to be related to adjusting to our schedule and his anxiety with us being gone. His foster has made great strides with the crate and anxiety. He has a special blanket he uses for comfort and he will move it from crate to couch with him. He is a bit of a barker at times, especially when first left in his crate. Max needs lots of exercise and playtime to be happy. In addition to that he needs a family willing to be firm with him on setting boundaries and continuing his training. He is very intelligent and eager to learn. He will thrive with proper exercise and consistency in household rules/training. We have already been working with him and he's doing well already. He had previously not shown any aggression or temperament issues at his foster family. We had only seen a happy friendly Max. He was adopted and it was discovered that he will take advantage of anyone not willing to be firm with him. He was very nippy with them at times and wouldn't let the family take toys from him and he would chase and nip at anything moving fast, people running, bikes, scooters etc. He came back to foster and has been undergoing training for the last few weeks. He has responded extremely well to the E-Collar (vibrate only, not shock) This has helped him immediately understand what behaviors are not acceptable. He is thriving with the consistent training. He rarely needs his collar now and the 'beep' setting is usually all he needs at this point. He will likely need the collar more at first in his new home while he learns that the rules still apply in the new place. His training collar will be included in his adoption. We had him evaluated by a professional trainer as well and he said he was very smart and trainable and will make a great dog for a lucky family. He was an angel with the trainer and it seems he only acts up with someone who's timid or afraid of him. A confident owner is needed for Max to succeed. He really is a sweet loving dog. He needs structure and consistency to be happy. Vet and home checks required. Fenced yard preferred, no kids under 14. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 3 hour drive radius) %BD'%BD%BC%BD%BD%8FIF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING READ BELOW %BD'%BD%BC%BD%BD%8F%BD'%BD%BC%BD%BD%8F Please message [email protected] or message our Facebook Page with questions or to get an application.
