Meet DiscoverMe Dog ROCKO | AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION OR FOSTER | SO CAL ONLY PLEASE ---- At just 11 months old, this little guy has been through enough and is ready to find his forever family! ROCKO ended up at the OC shelter in early May and was obviously confused by his new surroundings - the shelter staff said he cried and struggled against being put back into his kennel after his first few walks. He has now joined the DiscoverMe Project and is in a temp foster home learning to trust, and becoming an awesome house guest! ROCKO is one smart cookie! His foster mom reports that in the short time he's been with her he has already learned to potty outside, and he's also a pro at Sit, Down, Stay, and Leave it! Crate training is in progress, and he's a dream on a leash! ROCKO throroughly enjoys chasing a ball and chewing on his Kong toy, and is pretty good at entertaining himself. He's a sweet and healthy pup that just needs a family who will keep up on his training to make sure that he remembers his newly learned manners. Lil furball ROCKO has a bit of sensitivity around his neck area, we don't know why and we don't like to make conjectures, but we do know that he is better on a harness than a collar, and he would prefer you scratch his chin rather than his neck. He's started off a scared of the stairs in his foster home, but he has learned to navigate them with some extra encouragement and patience. He's still very much a baby and would do best with parents that are not gone all day, he's gotta get some of that puppy energy out! Rocko doesn't require a lot of space, he would be fine in an apartment as long as he gets plenty of opportunities to go out to potty and get some exercise. He really would love his own yard to run and play in, though! He's interested in other dogs and would probably be fine with a canine companion with proper introductions. He has been great with the few people he has met during this time of social distancing, no sign of stranger danger. Rocko would really love a home with high school age children if any at all, and a parent or two that will continue training him and setting the boundaries he needs to be the best furry family member! Who's got room for this 22lb pup? A happy, affectionate furiend who wants to run and play and help you shed that quarantine fluff! He doesn't take up much room and He doesn't ask for much. ROCKO'S bags are packed and ready to hop, skip, and jump into your car and heart! Can't commit to adoption right now? How about committing to foster ROCKO while we make look for his perfect match? Contact us today and inquire about lil baby ROCKO! *** Due to the unusual circumstances brought to us by COVID-19, we don't know when ROCKO will return to the OC shelter but the current plan is around *JULY 10* unless an adopter or long term foster is found. ROCKO is available for an adoption fee of $150 and is fixed, microchipped, vaccinated and hoping you have lots of toys for him to toss around. *** For inquiries to adopt or foster ROCKO, please email: [email protected] ---- ROCKO is not at the shelter. He is with us in foster care, so please inquire with WDR (Wagging Dog Rescue). ---- waggingdog.org/dmp ---- ABOUT The DiscoverMe Project: The DiscoverMe Project is a new program that allows sheltered dogs and cats from OC Animal Care to go into temporary 2-week foster care with an approved Wagging Dog Rescue foster home so they can get a break from the stresses of being kenneled/caged while providing mental, emotional and physical relief. While in foster care, we're able to learn more about the dog or cat when in a normal home environment, which doesn't always align with behavior seen in a stressful kennel environment. We share that valuable information with shelter staff and potential adopters in order to aid shelter marketing and adopter selection. Through rigorous marketing and promotion, we ultimately hope not to return the DiscoverMe Dog or DiscoverMe Cat to the shelter but instead to see that animal safely in the care of a forever family or reputable rescue with a foster care provider.
