About Duke (west)

Hi, my name is DUKE ID#A3718031. I am a neutered male, brindle and white American Pit Bull Terrier mix. The shelter staff think I am about 7 years old, and I have been at the shelter since June 12, 2020. Duke is usually a friendly dog with people, but is reactive with other dogs. We recommend no other dogs in the home, and probably best not to adopt with small children. He does have a record of a bite on his record, though that was several years ago. Duke is quite nervous in the shelter, and if he is to have any kind of a happy life, needs to be in a loving home. Here are some notes from staff about recent contact with Duke: 6/14/2020 EVALUATION Canine was wary when handler approached kennel; took treats, and softened when handler kneeled outside of kennel. Allowed leashing and walked well to yard; although nervous of surroundings. Entered yard stiff with pilo-erection. Tolerated greetings; but started to lip curl with invasive greetings. Roamed yard on leash, but kept distance from dogs in yard. Placed in side yard for remainder of eval. 6/20/2020 ENRICHMENT Canine was alarm barking when handler approached kennel. Easy to leash, pulled on leash on the way to yard. In yard canine explored and solicited attention off and on. Affiliative, leans in for petting. Easy to leash, reactive to canines in kennels while passing by on return. Went back into kennel without issue. Please consider giving this abandoned guy a home and making him your next furry family member.
