About Baxter

Meet super sweet Baxter! He is a 9 year old, 8 pound Chihuahua. Baxter really is an adorable pup, pictures do not do his cuteness justice! He was originally owner surrendered to us because his owner had too many dogs and was overwhelmed trying to care for them. He was then adopted this past March, but his new mom had some unexpected health issues. She loves Baxter dearly and was broken-hearted to return him, however she felt that due to her declining health, it was too much for her to care for him. Luckily, he was able to go back to his previous foster mom, making the transition easier for him. Baxter is a snuggler who loves to be near you during the day and prefers to sleep with you at night. In the evenings he is a perfect little lap dog. He very much loves attention and giving kisses. He does seem to be a one-person dog. If you are lucky enough to be that person, you will never have to worry about being alone; he will be your little shadow! Baxter does okay on leash, but is not a big fan, so a fenced yard is probably best for him. He is housebroken. He gets along fine with other dogs as long as they respect his boundaries. He does not like for other dogs to get too close if he has a chew treat or when he is playing with his favorite toy. Truthfully, Baxter would probably be happiest as an only dog so he could get all the love from his person! He has not been tested with cats or kids and we don't recommend a home with young children. Baxter can be a shy eater at meal times, making it easy for other dogs in the house to eat his food before he can. His foster mom fixes that problem by taking him in another room for his meals. She sometimes needs to hand-feed him a few bites to prompt him to eat. Baxter is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. He's a great little dog and someone will love to have him as a companion!
