About Phoebe

Meet Phoebe! Phoebe is a 1.5-year old, 37-pound spayed 'itty bitty pittie' mix located in Somerville, MA (near Boston). This young energetic dog likes to get her zoomies on, but for the most part she is a mild, sweet, affectionate girl who really loves people. Phoebe is currently in a good home after being rescued from a tough life in Arkansas. The problem? It's not a good fit. Phoebe lives with another dog and cat, but is best suited as the only pet in the home. A certified trainer has seen steady improvement and believes that continued management can improve her behavior around other dogs, but her prey drive towards other animals will always need to be monitored because she fatally injured a resident cat. (Please note that the circumstances were extenuating. Phoebe had just fallen down a flight of stairs and landed right next to the cat, causing a panicked response.) Phoebe responds very well to the extensive formal training she has received to include a puppy manners class. She follows clear, firm directions, and is treat-motivated. Smoked Gouda is her favorite! When playing she can get excited as young dogs do, but she's easy to distract and get back on track. She loves looking out windows, but will bark at passersby, especially other dogs; however, she responds to 'Down.' Phoebe is able to walk with a loose leash and understands some basic commands, such as leave it, wait, and come when walking. Her response when seeing other dogs can be intense, so she must have an experienced person who will monitor her and continue to work with her. To prevent incidents with other dogs while on walks, Phoebe now wears a muzzle which she is comfortable with. Phoebe's ideal home would be in a very quiet neighborhood without much dog-traffic. She must be the only pet and will live in an adult-only home. She has some strikes against her, but she is home-able and worthy of a safe, loving home.
