URGENT - GORGEOUS YOUNG MAN - PUREBRED CHOW AT ALBUQUERQUE ANIMAL WELFARE NEEDS A GREAT HOME! HE WAS ADOPTED AND THEN RETURNED TO SHELTER - PLEASE SHARE EVERYWHERE AND PLEDGE MUFFIN MAN - A1786966 Albuquerque Animal Welfare Shelter, Albuquerque, NM Muffin Man is a gorgeous young purebred chow who had done well with his behavior evaluation while at the Albuquerque New Mexico shelter. He is 4 years old and 54 lbs of fluff, but came in a very matted condition and eye discharge. The surrendering owner claimed he was starting to act aggressive and bit the owner in the leg while riding in the car (no medical treatment was needed however). The shelter had not seen any aggressive behavior and had made him adoptable. In fact, from the get go, he let the shelter staff groom and brush him for 20 minutes which is impressive given this was by total strangers. The shelter found his eyes were being irritated from fur that had grown and was rubbing on his eyes so they have trimmed his fur back now so he can see and feel better. They did not find he had entropion when his neuter surgery was done however. They also tested him with another dog and did fine, for which we have the video, as well as his medical notes. Not surprisingly, this total stunner was adopted out right afterwards- but to someone without breed experience who then was rough housing with him and getting him riled up per the shelter. Then, someone tried to take a shoe away from him and he bit the person, but it did not require medical attention. However, they returned him and he just completed a 10 day quarantine. I am waiting for updated notes but they were planning to still allow him to be adopted, although we are looking someone who is chow savvy and will know to go slower and how to handle a chow- and not do something like this. He most likely would need to be adopted in person. For further info, please contact me at [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network.
