We have a great work and herding dog she is a border collie Australian Shepherd mix and is very bright and very intelligent. She helps us herd the chickens gently back to the pen. We live next to cows and she will nip at their heels. She even kills rats that are around our barn. We don't have enough work for her to do and so we can see she's really bored she's not an inside dog. In order for her to be more happy and successful she needs to be part of a pack, do work and be much more needed then we can provide. She's begun having fear aggression when we leave her at night. She also really wanted to come with us in the car and when we said no she became aggressive and bit my daughter. At this point I don't trust her around my grandkids. I think if the dog had more to do and felt more part of the pack and had some training to release the fear aggression it would be a fantastic herding dog. One of the things she loves to do as well is play fetch. She is really smart when it comes to finding the ball. We really want this dog to have a good life but we are not as well equipped to give that good life as we thought we could be.
