About Leo

Leo is a special little guy who needs a special family to love him. He was found as a stray in North Carolina and when he was taken to the shelter he was so afraid that he got snippy with the people trying to help him. It took a few days but the kind ladies there worked with him and made sure he felt safe, and he decided to be friends. None of the other rescues the shelter works with were interested in a nervous little Chihuahua, but we decided to give Leo a chance and we saved him from the euthanasia list. �'�� In his foster home, Leo was overwhelmed and nervous for a the first couple of days. He wasn't sure what to make of all the dogs, big and small, and really didn't want to be handled or petted by his foster mom. But once he found out how much she was going to love him, no matter what, he let his guard down and showed what a sweet, goofy boy he really is! Now Leo loves to snuggle, play, and even give kisses. He follows his foster mom around and has even made a doggy friend. He likes to stand on his hind legs but leave his front feet dangling straight down so he looks like a little muscle man. Leo makes his foster mom smile every day. �'�� This little fellow is going to make a great companion for just the right person, and although we know it's going to be hard to find someone with the patience he needs, we know that someone out there is willing to take a chance on Leo like we did. Leo prefers his human companions to be female, although we've noticed that nice guys don't bother him as much as loud, angry jerks who have no tolerance for his fear. He will need help with housetraining but is happy to wear a belly band, and has made a lot of progress now that he knows it's safe to go outside with the rest of the pack. Leo's foster mom knows he is worth all the time and effort, and that in a 'normal' home he will most likely blossom even more quickly. Please help little Leo find the home he deserves!
