About Andy

Adoption Fee: $200
German Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Meet Andy Andy is a gorgeous young German Shepherd mix that we rescued from a high-kill shelter. We brought him to the safety of our shelter on June 14, 2020. Andy is about 10 months old. He's an incredibly handsome dog with beautiful tan and black markings and a thick luxurious coat. His piercing and intelligent eyes just beckon you to notice and love him. He weighs 65 pounds and may gain a few more. It's hard to understand how Andy found himself at a high-kill shelter. Although his behavior when first approached could be a clue. Andy hits the ground and ducks, not knowing if you're friend or foe. This sort of behavior indicates he could have been severely mistreated at some point in his young life, which then led to his neglect. However, despite what might have happened, Andy loves everyone he meets. He's really calm, well-mannered, sweet and affectionate. He LOVES being with people. He loves to snuggle and get belly rubs. He knows how to sit on command and shake paws. He's super smart and is easy to train. Andy has good energy and would make for a wonderful hiking or running buddy, but he also likes to just hang out in the sun or maybe on a couch. We haven't tested Andy with other dogs yet or cats, but will do so for potential adopters. Early indications are that Andy may mistrust other dogs out of fear. He could outgrow this behavior in time, especially as he learns that he's safe and loved and that not all dogs he meets are intending to do him harm. As long as Andy is with us, we'll continue to assess his behavior and work on building his confidence. In a short period of time, Andy has come a long way already. If you're looking for a beautiful young German Shepherd mix to welcome to your family, Andy is an absolute gem. He's quickly becoming a shelter favorite for his easy-going and fun personality.
