About Flynn

Adoption Fee: $275.00
Dachshund
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Flynn is just under both 18lbs and 6 years old. They really missed the boat on naming this guy because Shadow would have been more appropriate! Flynn likes to follow around a human to supervise. He LOVES to play ball: ball all day, ball all night. He prefers just a plain tennis ball, nothing fancy needed. He came to rescue with some gnarly nails but after a trim, he has been great with playing outside and enjoying long walks at the golf course near his foster home. His former owner took him out to potty solely on a leash, but he's transitioned well in foster to being independent in a fenced in backyard, so he will do well with both situations. He's fairly potty trained (95%) but with most doxies he'll spite poop or pee occasionally. He's been peacefully co-existing with two foster weens, with minimal squabbles over toys. He's a cuddle bug, especially when tired. He does like to be in the know, which can interfere with nap time. Very inquisitive. He listens fairly well to commands. He can be a bit whiny for attention, but we've found setting up a 'spot' for him seems to help. He is very sensitive to new sounds: icemaker, birds, the dryer, etc., but really only barks for sounds that mimic knocking, or a doorbell on tv. With new people or visitors, he will bark until they've calmly offered their scent, but non-aggressively. He was an owner surrender for possessiveness over the wife, so his adopter must be ready to keep him flexible and keep discipline in check from the beginning. In foster care we've made certain to keep him rotated between all four members of the family, and he's doing just fine. He preferred the ladies of the house for the first few days but was never fearful of the men. With some attention, ball playing, and belly rubs, he now equally rotates to whomever is closest. He does well in a crate when home alone, or if he cannot be watched, but he's been sleeping in a human bed. He's been great behavior wise in foster: no issues with resource guarding, aggressiveness, or chewing inappropriately. His coloring is unique, a true Merle, dappled gray, and has one white paw and tan paw in the front that is reversed on the back. Because of his unique coloring, he does have some bare spots, dilute alopecia down his back. These spots have gotten a little better in foster care: maybe from the food switch, Claritin, or even the Nexguard, but will probably always have some. His fur is super soft, and he does well with a bath. He's got a cute pink marking on his nose that really makes him irresistible. A little bit of focus on re-training, or a basic obedience class for boundaries and bounding in the beginning will make this little guy a great companion. Coexistence with other dogs with some understanding seems good, former owner noted he is not fond of cats.
