About Rex

Meet Rex We pulled Rex from a high-kill shelter and brought him to the safety of our shelter as we search to find his forever home. This older boy has lived a tough life, with no one really caring for him. Rex is a survivor though and we hope be able to find a soft place for Rex to land so he knows what it feels like to be loved and cared for. We think Rex is an American Bulldog/Retriever mix. He's about six years old, but already he sports the greying muzzle of a dog who's lived a hard life. He's a medium size dog at 55 pounds. His eyes show his weariness, but with the love and attention he's receiving in our care, we're starting to see the tiredness recede and the sparkle return. Rex is a gentle soul. He enjoys being in the yard where he can lay in the sun or sniff around. He walks well on a leash. He's friendly and loving. Rex is a bit hard of hearing, but does not seem to be completely deaf. The vet discovered that Rex has a couple of benign tumors that we'll treat in order to restore him to optimal health. We think Rex will do fine with other dogs. We'll test him for potential adopters. Rex has met the office cats and he will do best in a home without kitties. Rex will make for a wonderful family companion. He has a lot of life to live and love to give. He's so appreciative of being rescued and he shows us every day with doggie kisses and tail wags. Rex is up for adventure, but he also knows how to chill. Rex would love to be welcomed into a loving home. It may be the first time he'll know what it feels like to sleep on a soft pillow, eat regularly and feel safe and loved. This boy captured our hearts immediately and we think he may just capture yours. He's a good boy looking for his forever family. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
