Meet Herschel (Walker) Herschel is one terrific dog! Hard to believe that we rescued him from a high-kill shelter. He arrived to the safety of our shelter on May 29, 2020. Herschel has quickly become a shelter favorite. He has an outgoing and sweet personality. Herschel is a five year old Labrador retriever mix. He is 54 pounds of pure love. He's medium size with a lean physique. Herschel is friendly, calm and very sweet. He's always smiling and his tail never stops. He has a beautiful golden red/yellow coat, floppy ears and warm, inviting eyes. He loves being with people. He loves going on car rides. He jumps right in and will calmly sit and look out the window. He walks well on a leash and is an easy stroll. He's dog and cat friendly. Herschel is smart and knows many commands. He's just an overall solid and well-adjusted dog, and has the even temperament of a Lab. He's the perfect companion. He'd be content snoozing on a porch or a couch or being a part of family activities. We have noticed that Herschel is a little toy aggressive, but it's not a huge issue as long as his adoptive family is aware. If you're looking for a terrific dog to welcome to your family and become your bestie, Herschel may be just what you're looking for. He's a gem who's weathered some bad times, but he just gets on with living the best way he knows how. We love this boy to pieces and bet anyone who meets him will feel the same. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
