About Gia

Tibetan Terrier / Shih Tzu
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

**PLEASE READ GIA'S BIO THOROUGHLY. WE CAN ONLY CONSIDER APPLICATIONS THAT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS.** Beautiful Gia came to us when her owner got overwhelmed with dogs and could no longer handle them. She was used for breeding over and over, and when he couldn't place the puppies he had left, he wanted to surrender all of them. Lucky for Gia and her two boys, Milo and Charlie, a wonderful woman referred us to the owner and we took all three of the pups in. Gia is a female, 4 year old Shih Tzu/ Terrier mix (definitely more Terrier) that is about 18lbs. Gia and her puppies were kept in a garage 24/7 so when they came to us, they had no socialization whatsoever. Whoever adopts Gia must have patience, time, and love in their heart because she is a dog that needs a lot of one on one time and work to help her with her separation anxieties. Gia CANNOT be an only dog. She MUST go into a home with another young playful pup, preferably a male which she seems to get along with better, or she can be adopted with one of her boys. Gia has terrier in her, and terriers are known for their barking. She has a high pitch bark, so she cannot be an apartment or condo type dog. She must go into a home with a secure backyard that isn't in a completely quiet neighborhood. Gia still has potty accidents, so an owner that is patient with this, is something that we will be looking for. With outdoor access and repetitive reminders, she will get the hang of it. Gia is considered a 'runner' which is a dog that can take off and run very fast, because of this she cannot go into a senior home. She needs a family that will take her on walks and exercise her. Terriers have a lot of pent up energy in their heads and they need to release this energy to help with their anxieties. Since this little lady is a 'runner' and a flight risk, she can only go into a very secure home where we will be REQUIRING certain accommodations to be made such as a wrap pen or configurable pet gate which will be required to be placed around the inside of the home, around the front door. This is an extra barricade for every time the door is open and helps prevent her from running out. EVEN if you have a secure screen door, we will be requiring this. GIa is great with everyone, but does seem to have some anxieties when left alone so she needs to go into a home where the owners are not gone long hours or even better, work from home. Gia has been through a lot in her young life, so it's only fitting that she gets the best home ever! WE ONLY ADOPT IN LOS ANGELES AND SURROUNDING AREAS AS A HOME CHECK AND TRIAL PERIOD ARE REQUIRED. REQUIREMENTS: -Cannot be an only dog, must go into a home with another male dog her size or smaller, or with one of her boys. -Cannot be an apartment or condo type dog -Must go into a home with a secure backyard -She cannot be a dog for a first time dog owner, needs a dog savvy home.
