Meet Chrissie! She is an 8-9 year old Maltese who came to us as an owner surrender. She weighs 16 pounds, which is a bit overweight, so she is on a special diet and getting extra exercise to help her get to a healthier weight. Chrissie came to us with 3 mammary tumors, eye and ear infections, and she needed all but two teeth removed. We have taken care of all of that and now that her surgeries are complete she is ready to find a home! Chrissie is a happy little cuddle baby who is always looking for a lap. She is affectionate, calm and friendly. Nothing slows her down. She adapts well to new surroundings in spite of her limited vision. She is housebroken but not leash trained yet. She knows how to use a doggie door and navigates well outside. A fenced yard is required due to her limited vision and, at least in the beginning, she needs help outside to find her way around. Her hearing is good so talking to her helps her find her way. Chrissie likes other dogs but would be best with another gentle quiet dog in the home. She would also be happy as an only dog because she prefers to be in a lap as much as possible! It is important to her to sleep in the big bed with her person and she settles right down there for the whole night. Chrissie is up to date on shots, spayed, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. She is heartworm positive and will start treatment for that when she finishes her antibiotics. We are doing a the 'slow kill' method for Chrissie. That consists of 30 days of Doxycycline, given twice a day, followed by 12 months of Ivermectin. She will be retested at that time and, if still positive, we will provide another 6 months of Ivermectin and retest at the end of the 6 months. The rescue supplies the medicine and pays for the tests until she is heartworm free. Chrissie is ready for a better life and she has so much love to give!
