Straight out of Lady and the Tramp, meet Andy! Andy is an adorable one-year-old terrier mix, weighing a sturdy 21.6 pounds. His scruffy charm is sure to capture your heart the instant you meet him! Little Andy was a resident stray in a neighborhood in Alabama. He was well-known in the neighborhood and well-loved by the residents, but no one could catch him. They contacted us for help and our rescue president was able to get him through sheer will-power and determination. Andy is very skittish with almost everyone. He's been on his own for quite some time and doesn't quite trust two-legged friends. That being said, with a little patience and space, Andy becomes the most loving and sweet companion. He carefully watches his foster family to learn their rhythm and how they interact with the other animals in the home. He still sometimes forgets he can trust them and shrinks away when they pet him, but we think given a little more time, he will seek out affection. He loves giving gentle kisses and curling up beside you on the couch. He enjoys the company of other dogs and would do best in a home with at least one other younger dog to chase and play with. He has not been cat tested. He is working on leash training and hasn't had any accidents in his foster home, but he may occasionally have an accident in a new home until he figures out the new routine. He is currently in a foster home with children, and prefers for them to stay at a distance. This may change over time, but to be safe we do not recommend a home with young kids. A yard with a fence is required. He sleeps either in the bed with his foster family or in a dog bed beside his foster parents. Andy is still very young and enjoys chewing on chew toys and bones. He is heartworm negative, neutered, up-to-date on his vaccines, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. All he needs now is a family willing to give him the patience and love he deserves!
