About Mae Belle

Adoption Fee: $180
Bull Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Mae Belle is just about the most perfect dog in world. She's sweet, calm, affectionate, friendly, well-behaved, house-trained, and very loving toward her people. She is the perfect companion and Velcro dog. Mae Belle loves and trusts with her whole heart and she thought her momma felt the same way. So you can understand why we're upset on Mae Belle's behalf, when we received this text, 'As the weather has gotten nicer, I have made several attempts to get Mae Belle out and get some exercise. She's not having it. She only want to go outside to use the bathroom and then come back in. I spend a lot of time at and on the lake and would love to be able to take her, but she's too scared. I don't think she is a good fit after spending 6 months with her. I love her to pieces... I know this is hard news, but I wanted to see if I could bring her back.' Mae Belle's only crime was being a perfect homebody and getting in the way of her momma's summertime fun. She wasn't destructive, mean, or aggressive; she just wanted to stay home where she felt safe. When we adopt our residents, our process is thorough. In fact, we often get a lot of push back for our due diligence and requirements. We are upfront and transparent about our animals, because getting a dog or cat is a big responsibility and we want things to work out for everyone. We also understand that there is an adjustment period and we work with our adopters to address any issues that might come up. And, we will always take our animals back if things don't work out, it's a part of our policy. So we're glad to have Mae Belle back, trust us, but it's hard to accept, especially for rescues like ours, that dogs are easily thrown away when they are in the way of someone's fun. FUN, nothing else. We honestly expect better because we know the trauma these animals go through when they arrive to us. We hope our adopters do too. Now a once scared and lonely dog has to be put through the trauma of abandonment again. We're trying to calm her down and love her as much as we can. And we will double our efforts to find her a home that understands and appreciates who she is. This is Mae Belle. She's almost five years old. She's Bull Terrier/Bull Mastiff mix weighing 65 lbs. (She's a little overweight right now, she should be more like 58 lbs.) Mae Belle is black and white with a black patch over one eye. Under less trying times, Mae Belle has a personality that is off the charts happy and well-adjusted. This dog is pure love and joy. She loves EVERYONE she meets, including cats! She would prefer not to have to deal with other dogs and would do best as the only dog in the home. She is always wagging her tail and eagerly looks forward to all the attention she can get. She loves snoozing on a porch or couch and chewing a bone. A fenced yard would be perfect so she can sniff the grass and lay in the sun. She'll get in a car and enjoys the ride, but she doesn't like getting out of cars. Perhaps because she was dumped and she's afraid it will happen to her again. She's house-trained, calm, sweet, affectionate, friendly, laid-back and loyal. Mae Belle will make for a wonderful companion and may be just right the girl for an older or less active person or family. She also does well in an office setting and loves greeting customers. People are an endless joy to her. Mae Belle captures the hearts of everyone she meets. She deserves a home where she'll be loved and spoiled and kept safe forever.
