About Toffee

It breaks my heart to say my family needs to rehome my girl Toffee. She's a 13 year old pitbull mix and while she's considered a senior this girl still has loads of energy and will play till exhaustion. Last year while walking my two dogs a stray dog attacked us and badly injured Toffee. As a result, I could no longer keep both dogs as they developed aggressive behavior towards each other so Toffee went to live with my sister and her 5 kids since Toffee LOVES kids and my nieces adopted her as theirs. She's been there since without any issue and thrives in a family type of environment. Earlier this week a door was opened and Toffee ran out to go potty and unfortunately got into a altercation with another dog and the housing association said Toffee has to go this week. I've had her since she was 3 months and I write this in tears because I'm so scared that I won't be able to find her a good home to live out the rest of the few years she likely has left and I refuse to put her down unless she's suffering, which she isn't. She is on some medicine to help with separation anxiety and some developing arthritis but as stated, is still so full of energy and simply gets a little sore after an intense run session. She's fully potty trained, command trained, and leash trained. While she is no longer dog friendly as she's scared of other dogs, she is utterly amazing with people and loves a full house. The perfect home for her would be one with a family that understands dogs and one where someone would be home the majority of the day because of the separation anxiety or you just give her something to help calm her nerves and leave her toys/things to keep her busy. I currently live in Detroit but my sister and Toffee live in Holland and I'm able to take Toffee to her new home, which I'd prefer to see where she'd be living. All I ask is that if you take her in, you commit to providing a loving home for her until her time comes. And if for whatever reason you cannot uphold that, you inform me so I can find her a home that can as opposed to putting her down, taking her to a shelter, or giving her to just anyone. She only has a few years left, but years full of love and play is what she deserves. There's a lot of people that want a dog but don't understand the commitment and aren't ready or responsible enough to provide a good home. And as we all know, there is plenty of evil out there that engage in dog fighting, inhumane/abusive treatment of dogs, to name a few. She has all of her toys, food, bowls, medications, clothing, leashes, up to date on shots, is spayed & microchipped. She doesn't have a cage as she is free to roam the house and sleeps in her bed or in whoever's room.
