He is tense bodied with ears flat against the head. He flinches when the door open but does not attempt to flee. Grizzly remains frozen in his box while staff cleans the kennel. 6.5.20 Grizzly is in the back of his kennel upon approach. He flinches when the door is opened and hides behind his toy box. When the box is moved he flees to the other side of his kennel and lays in his litter box with a tense body. His body is tense, low to the ground, and pressed against the back of his box. He makes eye contact with assessor when softly spoken to but his ears are flat against his head and pupils are dilated. Grizzly flinches when the kennel door is opened and attempts to hide deeper in his box. Grizzly allows touch with a bear claw when approached slowly but flinches when touched. He allows petting on the head and along the body but flinches when touched and remains frozen and tense throughout the interaction. Grizzly tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He/she may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his/her new home.
