About Dexter Bravo

Dexter is a resilient boy who has overcome so much in such a short amount of time. He is a 4 year old Japanese Spitz that weighs 18.6 pounds full grown. Dexter might be shy and untrusting of people and his surroundings at first, but will be your best pal once he trusts you. He loves attention and belly rubs. Dexter gets along well with other dogs he has met (has met small female poodle and large female black lab). As Dexter has come out of his shell, he has become much more playful and loves toys and bones. He doesn't enjoy walks very much, and will sit down when he's tired of walking. A backyard isn't necessary for him. Dexter barks loudly when he's excited or when he sees someone outside, so apartments would not be good for him. Very important* because of his past, Dexter will sometimes growl and try to bite if someone picks him up when he isn't willing, is putting his leash on, accidentally scares him when sleeping, etc., and can be very protective over items like toys and paper towels if he gets ahold of one (his weird obsession). Because of this, we don't think kids would be good for Dexter. While Dexter was in foster he marked on the furniture in the house at first, but after wearing a belly band, he didn't have any accidents. They took him out on a regular schedule, but he'd also bark at the door to let them know he had to go outside. Dexter needs a patient person willing to give him all of the attention and love he deserves. When Dexter originally came in he had severe scabbing and pyoderma, when shaved the vet found over a hundred foxtails buried within his fur and skin. Dexter has neem on foster receiving antibiotics and is now healthy and looking (and feeling) so much better than before! He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, vet checked and microchipped.
