About TANNER

Catahoula
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This is Tanner. It will be exciting to see what kind of life he gets to have because he has so many options of what he can bring to the table. He is just now about to hit his prime.Tanner two years old with super white healthy teeth. He weighs 71 pounds and is in tact because if you know anything about the Catahoula leopard breed you would know they should not be neutered until they are at least three to four years old for them to be the best dog they can be for maturing. Tanner is up to date on all his shots and is all good until December/January. When I came across tanner he was a outside dog who had never been petted much or had not ever had a bath it seemed. After his first bath he was just kind of unsure what water was being poured on him but he did well. Since getting Tanner out of the situation he was in Tanner has been doing great and is really working hard to show that he has the makings of being a inside family dog or a great companion with one owner. He has never once used the bathroom inside and is very content being a inside companion given then chance. At night he can sleep from 9pm to 8 am with no problem. He does like to get a up a few times to stretch his legs and lay back down. He would do great in a house with a fenced yard to walk the perimeter and keep his owner aware of whats going on. Overall he is a quite dog until you haft to leave.Once he gets in his crate Tanner will bark for about fifteen to twenty minutes and then will lay down in his crate. He would not do well in a apartment for this reason until he grows out of the barking while you leave phase. If you leave him in a fenced in area and walk in the house he will bark for a bit but we are working on that. Once he knows it's his home that will change. If i leave him out of his kennel and go outside he will not bark. If you have him on a walk around tie out in the yard and walk about 100 feet from him he will start barking and we are working on that as well. Keep in mind Tanner still has some puppy qualities about him. For his first week somewhere new he might nibble on a sock or take something off the table like a hairbrush etc and nibble on that a bit. He has not swollowed anything just he just kind of lets you know. Keep in mind he does need his bones around to chew on. And he does require a XL Kennel to be put in to help the transition into his new home. At night for now when you lay down he prefers to rotate from his own bed on the floor to his kennel and to lay/guard his living room and then around 6 to 8 am he will come to where you are sleeping and get up on the bed for a bit and will help you on starting a new day. Since he still has some puppy traits he will lick you a bit and sometimes will nudge you with his nose when you are petting him. He has never once growled at me. I have picked him up,given him a bath, taken his bone from him and taken his food from him and also have introduced him to other dogs with no growls at all. he is curious wanting to meet other dogs and you will need to be alert as a owner when he is on the leash he will pull a bit and really want to go towards the dog in a non aggressive way. You do need to be aware if you see a deer or come across rabbits he does have a strong prey drive. I have never been able to see how he is around cat's so far. If Tanner is to be chosen as a outside dog working on a farm he would do great at protecting a garden by the house to keep deer and rabbits away from it as well as guarding his perimeter and family. He does have the option of being a hunting dog because tracking deer is natural to him.The first day I brought him here he ran straight to a pair of deer antlers that were on a fence to grab one to chew on. He will be very intense when he picks up a deers scent or if he see's one you for sure know and will need to be somewhat strong and ready to correct and get him out of his prey mode. We are working on that as well for right now. Also if he is to go to a working farm he has the option of being a good stud dog for some of the farms out there that take pride in there horses and dogs. Tanner's vet info can be transferred to his new owner showing he is up to date on everything and showing he is heartworm negative and is just about to hit his prime and years and should hopefully be a amazing dog for 10 plus years.
