About Webster

Adoption Fee: $200
Australian Cattle Dog / Australian Kelpie
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

This 7 year old chunky little cattle dog was sitting in the Hesperia shelter for over a month with no interest. Webster is very shy, and he was in the back so he could chill out a little, but no potential adopters could see him. The Hesperia shelter made it easy to get him out and Webster went straight into a foster home. Webster was shy after all that time in custody. But he warmed up quickly and was a great guest and pack member, until he got a flight to Paso Robles and joined the pack here. We were having a heat wave when Webster got to Paso, so I got the old baby pool out. Filled it, stood diagonally across from Webster and called him. I swear he merely lifted his feet a bit higher and continued walking to me until he was standing in the pool! Gave him a good de-shedding and a bath. And off on the hike we went. He is pretty spry for a chubby dude! He walked beautifully on a leash and he loves walking through the creek. We're going to get this boy some regular exercise and reduce some calories. Webster is a very loyal dog. He attached himself to me in less than one day. One hike and I was his pack leader. I don't make a fuss over him. He sleeps in the laundry room with the dog door, on a dog bed, and doesn't go past the bathroom door. The door, is open. He knows where in the house he is allowed. If I stop to scratch his ear, or pat his chest, he's in heaven. He gets a few hours of me, while cleaning and out on our hikes, but then, he has to occupy himself. I expect him to settle inside, or hang out in the yard, and that is what he does. Webster, and every dog, needs calm leadership to be a balanced, happy dog. When we are out and about, Webster is at my heel. Follows me everywhere. He's devoted and a Heeler! What do you expect? I think Webster would be fine to have around cats. He would be good with or without another dog, but another dog would be good unless you want him at your feet all the time. Web is good with other dogs. There are 4 in the house and more outside and he just roams with all of them. He's very casual. If anyone is too rambunctious for him, he just raises a lip, it's so subtle, you have to pay attention to see. Webster is an easy dog here. Accepting the amount of attention he gets and enjoying not being in a shelter! Housebroken, rides great in the car, sleeps in a dog bed. Knows commands, sit, down and he's learned stay. He gets along with other dogs, and seems to a dog that would be ok with kitties. He's a very mellow guy.
