About Ajax

Adoption Fee: $150
Australian Shepherd / Border Collie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Ajax is a sweet, athletic, dog. He is 5 years and 3 months old and I have raised him since 2 months old. I have always provided him with the best of care. He is neutered. He was raised the majority of his life at my parents house, in the national forest. We have no fences here, and he never wanders further than our property line. He prefers to be outside, since we have always spent the majority of our time outdoors hiking and adventuring. We hike off leash and his 'come' response is on point. Although he enjoys being outside he likes to be inside with his people as well. He sleeps inside but not on a human bed. He gets along with all dogs and people, with no issues. I have trained him in basic obedience his entire life. He can reliably 'sit'/ 'down' (stay is implied), 'come', 'go', 'drop it', 'leave it'. Things to consider: -He prefers to play fetch over socializing with dogs or people. On a scale of 1-10 he is a 10. I have trained him to understand ' I don't want to play', which works if you establish boundaries with him and stick to what you ask of him. -He has had 4 seizures in the last two years. They are 100% associated with overheating. They always took place after exercise on a hot day (90 degrees or above). I have taken precautions such as carrying ice water if I know we will be out in the heat and limiting extensive exercise when possible. It has worked thus far and we have had no incidents since. -He is anxious when driving in a car. If you place your hand on him he is calm. Or you can use a divider, even a flimsy one works fine. -He is very sensitive to intense energy. -He has not been exposed to cats, so it is difficult to say how he would do. He does bark and chase cats if one randomly pops up outside. What I am looking for in his new home: -***Located in Arizona. I want to rehome him in Arizona, preferably in Prescott or within a couple hours. -A household where family members will be home the majority of the day -A family with a positive and nurturing energy -An active family that enjoys to hike at least three times a week. Preferably more frequently -A willingness to provide high quality food. He has been on a raw diet his whole life and will need someone willing to continue it. This is an expensive undertaking and costs me about $80/month -A house with a large back yard and access to indoors whenever he wants to spend time with his people *Very importantly, I need someone capable of working with his ball obsession. It will be important to establish boundaries so you can live harmoniously. I am looking for a new home for Ajax because I have been moving a lot in the past couple years and I don't think it is fair. I love Ajax very much and I believe he deserves a stable home where he can live his best life. The adoption process will not be a quick one as I want time to get to know one another on more then one occasion. I will also want to check in on Ajax from time to time after the adoption takes place. I will not respond to emails so please text or call me. (928) 227-7325
