About Dirk

This scruffy little adorable munchkin is Dirk! He is a 7 year old, 10 pound Pekingese Yorkie mix (he will be 8 in October)! Dirk was owner surrendered to us through no fault of his own. His foster mom says he is the most laid back little guy that they have ever been fortunate enough to foster. He is super-sweet and friendly and not demanding in any way. He is affectionate and loves to be petted and talked to and he loves to give kisses. He follows his foster family around happily and will lie on the floor close by to keep an eye on what's going on. He is also content to rest in an open-door crate. If someone is going out the door, Dirk wants to go too. He rides perfectly in the car. He listens well and comes when he is called. He loves to be brushed, which is a good thing because he has a gorgeous thick coat. He is used to going to the groomer and is a good boy there too. Dirk enjoys going for walks on a leash. He knows commands like rollover, sit, and high five! Dirk has a favorite little blue ball that he loves for you to throw for him. He will run to it and cover it with his paws so you have to take it from him to throw it again, he thinks that's the best thing ever! He is housebroken but like many dogs may have a couple of accidents while he adjusts to a new home and routine. He likes to go outside to potty but he wants you to go with him at first. He will cry close to the door to try to get your attention to let you know that he needs to go outside, and he will cry to let you know when he wants to come back inside. He currently sleeps in a doggy bed next to the big bed, and he will whine to wake you up when he needs to outside. Dirk gets along well with other small dogs and would also probably be fine as an only dog. He is also good with cats. We think he would be ok with older kids, but he has not been around younger children and is not used to them. Dirk has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and microchippped with a lifetime registration. His neuter is scheduled soon and is covered by the rescue as long as it is done at our vet. Dirk will make someone a wonderful loving companion! He really is a perfect little dog!
