About Phoebe

Adoption Fee: $150
German Shorthaired Pointer
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Let me introduce you to one very special gal -- Phoebe. This gal had a very tough life before she came in to the Harrison County Humane Society at 5 months of age. See -- she came in last December with very advanced demodectic mange and was entirely hairless. Her previous family did not have the funds, nor the desire, to commit to her treatment, so she came to us. I absolutely believe that without the care that we were able to provide both at the shelter and with her foster family, this sweet, loving little girl would no longer be alive. Phoebe was treated quite aggressively for the first 6-8 weeks with frequent ivermectin shots, twice weekly medicated baths, daily Benedryl, coconut oil, and antifungal medications. At the end of that time, she had grown back her hair, no live mites were found on her, and she was able to be spayed. Quite soon after that, though, she had a relapse. She went into foster care, with a wonderful family, who committed to helping her overcome her mange and any other issues that may present. She was taken to a veterinary dermatologist who, again, treated her aggressively for both the demodectic mange as well as a skin infection. Today, Phoebe is mange-free and stable, as long as she continues to take her regular Bravecta and is monitored by her humans. It is now time for Phoebe to find her perfect forever home. As a German Shorthair Pointer, she desires to be a working dog -- she needs a job! So... here is her application for a home and job with you -- 1) She is currently 10 months old (May 24, 2020). 2) She is spayed, UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, and tested negative for heart worms. 3) She has had the advantage of having consistency and basic training with her foster family. She knows what it means to be a part of a family. 4) She is good with other dogs -- although she can be a bit much with being so busy and believing that every single person and animal should love, love, love her! This is what she requires: 1) An indoor home -- she is used to being inside, with a family, and a comfortable bed and blanket. 2) Consistent care to ensure that she does not relapse into her demodectic mange. 3) She will need regular vet visits -- besides your monitoring of her, she should visit the vet based on your veterinarian's recommendation, because of her history 4) She needs a job -- and training to be able to accomplish that job. Whether it is a therapy dog, hunting dog, service dog -- she is smart, clever, and she wants to work. 5) Love. She is very special to us, and we want to be sure that she is spoiled for the rest of her life. She is located in Logan, IA. A potential adopter should contact us via email ([email protected]) or by phone (712-644-4436 - Nancy). We ask that you be available for a Zoom interview with the foster family and me so that we are confident that you can provide Phoebe with the life she deserves. Thank you.
