About Beryl (west)

Hi, my name is BERYL - ID#A4416929. I am a male, gray and white American Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 2 years old, and I have been at the shelter since May 11, 2020. Beryl needs an experienced handler. We recommend no small children or no children, and maybe he should be only dog in the home. He has been extremely fearful, but has improved a lot recently. Beryl is very selective in both his dog friends and human friends. Much patience will be needed with this puppy. Here are the latest notes from volunteers who spent time with Beryl: 5/20/2020 WALK Beryl was easy to put lead on and exit out of kennel. walked to play yard. Walked him around the yard with lead on. He leaned into petting, and allowed petting on head, sides of face and under chin. Light petting on dogs back. Had dog go for a longer walk in a large play area. Dog was relaxed. Easy kennel return to kennel and removal of lead. 5/20/2020 OBSERVATION Tense, direct stare on approach; barked, snapped when handler began unlocking door; relaxed when handler presented leash; easy pull; pulled on leash; explored yard; solicited attention and allowed petting all over; easy return Throughout the rest of the day dog remained relaxed when handler approached kennel 5/21/2020 OBSERVATION Easy kennel removal with lead. Dog walked gently today. Went to large play yard. Dog enjoyed exploring. Dog came into handler multiple times for petting. Dog relaxed and mouth relaxed. Dog enjoyed attention from handler. Dog walked gently back to kennel. Easy to remove lead. Brought toys for this dog. Dog likes toys. Enjoys squeaky toys. Dog played with toys in kennel. Dog is more relaxed.
