About Slater

Name: Slater, aka Southern Gentlemen, aka Black Beauty. Age: approx. 2yrs Breed: Lab/pit mix Weight: Solid 65lbs Good with: Kids, cats Energy: medium to low Car rides: enjoys long distance car rides, gets antsy when car stops Slater is a laid back neutered gentlemen who enjoys being around people, chasing/chewing small squeaky dog toys, sharing your popcorn, and cuddling. Currently he lives with 3 human brothers' age 2 to 5 years old, and an 11 yr old cat. He has beautiful brown eyes and walks like a gentlemen on a leash. When his brothers have let him out of the house (accidently) he does not run off, he runs to his people. Slater enjoys the finer things in life such as napping on a blanket, wrestling on the bed, playing with cat toys, taking walks, or lounging around watching people. He is not sure what to think of the cat so he just watches him. Slater was rescued in TX after being dumped about a year ago where he was shot at, yelled at, and had things thrown at him. Even after fending for himself for a year Slater loves everyone! He has been in foster care since March 2020. At his first foster home in TX he played with the family Yorkie. He is on Medical Hold until we get his Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) cured. He is undergoing Chemotherapy and will be ready for his forever home shortly. Slaters only drawbacks are his separation anxiety and the chewing off of his fur, which we hope will be better after treatment. He needs a home to feel safe and loved. After being dumped in the woods it is no wonder that he fears being left alone but with a good routine and reassurance Slater will make a wonderful companion. No one is perfect but are you his perfect family? Slater had his first round of Chemo on Friday May 1st and it went very well. He will receive another 2 to 4 rounds of Chemo.
