About Nova

Adoption Fee: $200
Alaskan Malamute / Siberian Husky
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

ADOPT ME! NOVA 11 year old Malamute 69 lbs Nova is a smart obedient loyal calm companion who is very people motivated. Don't let the stereotypical view of Malamutes/Huskies being escape artists turn you away from Nova because she is the exact opposite. Nova has shown zero interest in leaving her comfy indoor 6 in thick doggy bed life. She currently lives in a foster home with 5 other dogs. It is very obvious she could care less about canine companionship which is a typical trait of the Malamute. We think she would be happiest in a home where she reigns as queen and sole canine. She is house and crate trained. She will let you know when she needs to go outside by starting at you and barking and she will let you know when she is ready to come back inside by doing the same. Most of the time she goes outside in the backyard to do her business and wants right back in. When no one is home she is crated but she is only crated because there are multiple dogs in the household and it is our goal they are never loose together unattended so in case one of the other dogs escape their crate, that dog would be the only dog loose. Otherwise Nova's foster mom would not crate her when she is not home. Nova knows her name well, she also knows sit, down, stay and shake in English and Spanish. Nova has some arthritis in her left back leg. She has started Doggie Dailies advanced hip & joint supplements for dogs ($33.97 via Chewy). There are 225 chews and she gets 4 a day so one container lasts 56 days. But don't let this fool you, she is ready for a walk anytime. She runs and get around just fine. Her foster mom does take her on shorter walks than the rest of the dogs until the doggie dailies kick in. Nova loves to go on car rides and enjoys laying outside in the shade and during cool weather. Nova is taken to the vet to get her nails clipped since she is not a fan. She also is take to a groomer to brush out her undercoat. She came into rescue with longs nails and needed to be bushed badly. Because it had been awhile since she had been brushed I am sure it was painful for her. With regular light brushing I am sure she would not mind it so much. The owner who surrendered her to our rescue reported that the 3 kids were too much for her to handle and would often retreat to be alone. We think she would prefer a calm household without young children. RESCUE STORY-Nova's foster mom spotted her loose on her way home from work. She stopped and Nova jumped right into her car. A Spanish gentlemen approached her and asked if she wanted her. Despite the language barrier we figured out she has been living on Beach and 1st in Fort Worth for 2 months on this man's front porch. Her foster mom scanned her and found she had an Avid microchip that had never been registered by the Yucca Valley Animal Shelter in Ca. Nova was adopted from them as a puppy in March 2010. Back then they left it up to the adopter to register the chip. The shelter does not have any records on Nova any longer but we are guessing Nova was born probably 3-6 months when adopted. Fast forward to 7/28/2019 when she entered the Fort Worth Animal Shelter. She was reclaimed by her owner at that time. The shelter entered her microchip with 24hour Petwatch but did nothing with Avid. Nova was back at the same shelter 9/26/2019. This time her owner did not reclaim her. She was available for adoption at the free adoption event 'Clear the Shelter'. She was adopted by a mother who lived in an apartment with 3 children, one which was a baby. They took her to Gateway park. The children lost control of her leash and they left her at the park where she walked to 1st and Beach were her foster mom found her. This adopter willingly surrendered her to our rescue knowing she was not the right home for Nova. Nova is such a great companion we just don't understand why anyone would give up on her or leave her at shelter. If you have question, please email her foster mom at [email protected] Adoption fee-$200.00. Nova is spayed, utd on vaccinations, heartworm negative, on heartworm and flea/tick prevention and microchipped. She is getting her teeth cleaned and a complete groom at the same time as soon as the groomer returns to work at our vet's office. You can fill out an application at www.cowtownpet.org
