PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS FOR NEWT: KIDS 12 AND OVER ONLY. FULLY FENCED YARD. DAILY MEDS FOR ALLERGIES. PATIENCE SINCE HE IS SHY WITH STRANGERS. Newt is formally Skye, a chihuahua/terrier mix, about 12 pounds. He was born to Smidget Sonya at the rescue in 2017 and adopted out as a 4 month old puppy. Now three years old, he was surrendered after becoming too protective of their newborn. He is SMART and food motivated, which means he will be easy to train and would probably love some type of agility work or activity that gets him busy. He is definitely out of sorts and nervous, wondering when they are going to come back and pick him up. We are learning more about him each day. Right now, we know that he LOVES to play with other dogs and also loves his chin rubbed. He appears devoted to his humans and wants to be near you when he's comfortable. He will need someone who is willing to work with him, as he appears to be under-socialized with strangers. He wants to protect you and his turf and will demonstrate reactivity on leash and in the yard to those not in his family. We recommend no kids under 10. He has some allergies that are currently being treated with Apoquel. We were told he is afraid of thunderstorms. Overall he is a fun, energetic and loyal fellow! Adoption contract and fee applies. Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
