About Joanie

Adoption Fee: $180
Catahoula / American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Joanie Joanie is a beautiful young dog that we rescued from a high-kill shelter. She arrived to the safety of our shelter on May 8, 2020. Joanie's been down on her luck and hasn't been well taken care of in her young life. She's thought to be a one-year-old Catahoula/American Staffordshire mix. She is a gentle soul and has a calm demeanor. One of our volunteer trainers has been working with Joanie to help ease her uncertainty at finding herself in a strange and noisy place. Our trainer says that Joanie is very loving and sweet. She will lean on her person to make a connection and feel safe. Her drive to please is strong. She's smart and a quick study. We think with consistency and gentle guidance, she'll learn how to live in a home quickly. She walks well on a leash. Joanie is friendly with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. She is afraid of cats. Joanie has suffered in her life and she's been neglected. Joanie has tested heartworm positive. Our shelter is treating Joanie and getting her onto a path of health. Heartworm treatment is tough on a dog and is easily prevented, but when people don't care the dog suffers. In a high-kill shelter like the one Joanie was in, HW positive dogs are the first to be euthanized because the treatment is expensive. That's why we pulled Joanie. She is an incredible young dog, with so much love to give and life to live. She'll make for a wonderful companion for that family or person willing and able to open their heart and home to her. If you're looking for a lovely young dog, please consider Joanie. She's an absolute gem. She deserves a chance at living a happy and loving life.
