About Sophie

Adoption Fee: $180
Border Collie / German Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Sophie Sophie is a beautiful young dog that we rescued from a high kill shelter. She arrived to the safety of our shelter on May 8, 2020. Sophie is thought to be a one-year-old McNab Shepherd, which is a cross of border collie/shepherd. It's hard to really know what a shelter dog's breed is unless DNA'd, but she looks like one and exhibits many of the characteristics of this incredible breed - obedient, sociable, friendly, and hard-working. McNab shepherds are considered herding dogs and were bred to work ranches. While Sophie probably never worked a ranch, she's very active and would do best with an active family or with a person who likes to run and hike|a lot! She has great energy. Once exercised, she loves to snooze with her person. She's not hyperactive, just energetic. She weighs 39 pounds and most likely won't get too much bigger. She is super sweet and SUPER smart. She learns very fast according to our volunteer trainer who has been working with Sophie. She's learned some commands already, but she needs some gentle training to correct some lingering puppy behaviors. With consistency and gentle guidance, Sophie picks things up quickly and no doubt she'd learn house-manners in no time. Sophie is affectionate and loving. She loves being with her people. She's been starved for attention and laps it up whenever she's given the chance. She is sociable and would do best where she is part of the family activities. Sophie doesn't know what to make of cats. When she encounters them in the office she backs up and barks, but does not engage with them. She is friendly with dogs and enjoys playing with them. This young pup is a gem of a find. Sophie will make for a wonderful family dog and loyal companion. She aims to please. A warm and welcoming home will help her thrive and leave her past behind.
