About Cinnamon

Adoption Fee: $25
Greyhound mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Cinnamon is a large (65 lbs) strong dog with a very high energy level. Cinnamon is more of an 'American Hound Dog' than a 'Greyhound' but that option was not an available entry. The dog needs a lot of exercise which we are not able to give her. We do not have a fenced yard and I am 73 and my wife is 67. This probably never was a good fit but in March this year I had a heart attack that has aggravated the situation - neither of us can really handle the dog anymore. Since my heart attack we have had Cinnamon reside with a professional dog sitter in Port Charlotte. Cinnamon is not caged and happy there; she receives proper exercise and gets along well within the dog sitter's pack. Unfortunately this is not a long-term solution for us as we can not afford this arrangement on an ongoing basis. Cinnamon has never bitten anyone viciously in anger or broken skin; she does play-bite a little too hard at times. When my wife and I walk Cinnamon she often acts aggressively towards strangers. We are told that in her mind she is defending her pack. We are told that she does not display this aggressiveness when walking with the dog sitter. Cinnamon is a rescue dog that was likely abused as a puppy as she has some initial level of fear particularly towards men. Cinnamon needs lots of exercise and a place to run such as a fenced yard (at a minimum). Cinnamon also gets along with most other dogs and does well in a pack. Cinnamon also needs good alpha leadership or she will assume alpha leadership. Cinnamon is friendly, in good health and is highly intelligent with a high energy level. Although approximately 2 & %BD%BD years old Cinnamon still has a lot of puppy in her. She is fully house trained and is not destructive. The ideal owners should be familiar with dog behavior and provide an environment with a lot of exercise. Due to her high energy level and the fact that she has not been raised around children, I am skeptical of what her behavior might be with small children.
