About Ripley

Adoption Fee: $50
German Shepherd mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Ripley is a 10-year-old female shepherd mix. She was rescued from North Shore Animal League on Long Island when she was 7 months old. She is considered a 'potcake dog' from the Caribbean islands because all the stray dogs would get fed leftovers from people's pots on the island. She is spayed, house broken, crate trained, vaccinated, and has zero health issues. She was abused as a puppy and can be very skittish. Sudden movements tend to scare her, and it takes her a little while to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you, she is a sweetheart and will love you unconditionally. She is scared of the sudden movements of children and unfortunately recently bit her owner's 6-month-old baby. Training has been ineffective because everything is virtual right now due to COVID-19 and her owners cannot afford to wait for this to all be over. Her owners are heartbroken to let her go but know that this is the safest option and she will be happiest in a home without children. Ripley needs an experienced owner that has the patience to gain Ripley's trust. Ripley is good with other dogs if she is slowly introduced to them, but she has never lived with a cat. She is great on a leash. She knows how to sit, give paw, give high 5s, and lie down. She loves going for walks, runs, and hikes, but is also content laying on the couch all day. She is a very chill dog. Ripley's owners are willing to drive Ripley out of state if someone is interested in re-homing her outside of New York. We just don't want her to end up in a shelter.
