About RYDER - SPECIAL NEEDS

Adoption Fee: $550
German Shepherd
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Male

[Read About Natural Incontinence Care] RYDER was transferred from a rescue in West Texas to GaDaH. RYDER will be neutered in the beginning of June and will then be available for adoption. He has rabies, core vaccines, lepto, is on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention, microchipped and at the time of transfer in May 2020 weighed around 18.6 pounds. He has an estimated date of birth of 8 February 2020. RYDER is a special needs boy in that he was born without a sacrum ( The sacrum is a shield-shaped bony structure that is located at the base of the lumbar vertebrae and that is connected to the pelvis. The sacrum forms the posterior pelvic wall and strengthens and stabilizes the pelvis. Wiki) and some of his vertebrae are not connected. He has had his tail amputated to help with any mess. The vet determined that he is not in pain and gets around great, however, he is incontinent, both bowels and bladder. We are not sure how things will play out for him in the future as he gets older, if he will start to have problems or if he will stay as he is and due to this we are only looking for a family that is 100% dedicated to giving this amazing pup, the love, care, and future he deserves. The family must be financially able to pay for any tests, treatments and if need be extensive surgeries if that is what is required for him in the future. Adopting a dog is a huge commitment for anyone, Ryder definitely needs that commitment - he is cute and fluffy and talkatative now and it is easy to think you could give him what he needs, but dealing with incontinence can be a stressful thing and he potentailly has around 12, maybe and hopefully more years ahead of him. Of course there are diapers and belly bands, but there are times when he will get sick and have diarrhea and so on and he will be a big dog, so a big mess. Other than that Ryder is your dream GSD pup, he is fun, loving, your shadow, he likes to let you know exactly what he is thinking and when he is not happy, he most likely won't be a typical high energy boy, not physically anyway, although he will still need the mental stimulation and engagement. RYDER is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue, located in Sebec, Maine for an adoption fee of $550.
