About Blue - Behavioral Case

This 18 month old, Blue Merle, 180 pound male Great Dane comes to us from a shelter in upstate New York. He was suffering from what we call 'kennel crazy' and developed some aggression issues which resulted in a bite during an introduction to a potential adopter, shortly after arriving he also bit a volunteer. We agreed to take Blue into our program and get him the training, socialization and rehabilitation he needs. He truly is a big puppy and is in need of perfecting his manners, skills and needs constant socialization but once he trusts you he is really sweet and a total lovable GOOFBALL! Baby Blue has a history of aggression due to severe neglect, lack of socialization and exposure to the world. He is a long term case for us and we are working on his exposure, behavioral therapy training and socialization. He is amazing with all other dogs and cats. With animals he is very submissive, with people he is beyond guarded, terrified and distrusting. Blue will need a VERY EXPERIENCED giant breed home that has patience, understands his issues and will continue working with him on his training plan we have been given by our behaviorist. The home will never allow Blue around children and will always have him muzzled when around new people or in public. He is very comfortable in his muzzle and does well training or going places with it. If you feel you have the experience and are qualified, feel free to get pre=approved for adoption once Blue is ready. It will likely be a few months before he can be adopted but we are willing to take applications from homes that are qualified and will be patient enough to wait for this amazing boy!
