About Mozart

Adoption Fee: 500
Saint Bernard
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

No HOMES WITH CHILDREN UNDER 16! Good with large females, smaller submissive males and cats. Mozart is one of my behavioral cases, I totally adore and love. I truly love them all, but this guy is special! He literally bit me twice on the way home when I picked him up, both times he did not break the skin. He was severely traumatized and devastated to leave his temporary foster home to come to our rescue for rehabilitation. Mozart will be a tough transition into a forever home, so he is not for the faint at heart. He needs a strong experienced owner! He is now so happy to be with me when its his turn to get out for his walks, one on one time or training time. He will not even go outside to go potty alone, he demands that we go with him. He will run back to the door immediately if I don't walk outside with him and grab and tug on my arms to go with him. He is one of my behavioral cases that I thought was going to be the worst I had ever seen, but to my surprise he actually has the potential to come out of our care pretty close to normal. He just made me earn his trust and respect first and it took over a month to do so. He knew he was bigger and stronger and didn't hesitate to show me at first. In the beginning I could not touch his food or water bowl if he was in the room. He would immediately come after me showing me that they were his! Now I can touch all of his things with no issue, he just always checks to see what I am doing. I think more curious if I am giving treats in his bowl. He finally trusts us, he is coming along so good. He is STUBBORN though! When I give him commands, it often takes a few times before he will do it, but he is getting better every day. He absolutely loves car rides and to get out of the house, he is perfect and comfortable in his muzzle and gives me zero trouble wearing it. He is extremely food motivated, so that gives me a leg up! He has been evaluated and is seeing our behavioral trainer this week again and we will continue sessions until he is cleared for adoption. This boy that I thought would take forever to rehabilitate, is actually surprising me every day. He is huge, he is a scruffy Saint Bernard with the thickest coat. I call him a 'country' Saint. I'm not sure why but the scruffy ones remind me of 'country farm dogs'. I brush him daily and he rarely sheds anything, his coat is just dense, but also soft, fluffy and shaggy. He is tall, large and extremely intimidating and he is one that many people stop and say WHOA! BUT, if you know him and love him, he will be the most loving loyal companion you can ever imagine! He is silly and very mischievous! He literally looks all over the house for things to steal... He once jumped into my bathtub and was sniffing around. I had a sugar scrub bar on the edge that I immediately grabbed, thinking it might look appealing to him. Then I heard a CRUNCH and GULP! I PANICKED trying to figure out what he ate! Was it a razor, what was it?? No it was a brand new bar of DIAL SOAP! I called the poison control hotline, they told me to call the vet. I called the ER vet and the said not to worry, give lots of water and no food for 12 hours. At his weight it should be fine. I was actually worried he would թ bubbles.. Mozart keeps me on my toes, he is like literally having a ginormous toddler running around! He gets into everything, including the shower or tub with you if he can! In his first foster home, he ate a tin foil ball and a full box of Little Debbie Brownies.. Both times he was rushed to Blue Pearl Veterinary hospital and both times they sent him home and said he should be fine at his size and weight and he actually was too! He loves toys and squeaky big balls, he will come out of his crate and search the house until he finds one, then carry it outside to go potty, never dropping it. He keeps me on my toes! He loves to turn on the bathroom faucet to drink water from the tap, but he surely doesn't care about turning it off. He is funny and again my mischievous boy! He is fantastic with my entire pack, but I would definitely say he is a dominant male and should probably be with a very friendly, tolerant female and/or smaller very submissive male. He does lack some dog manners occasionally, he will nearly flip a dog over smelling during the doggy greeting. He loves puppies too! He means no harm, he is just excited and truly doesn't realize how big he is. He has a crazy traumatic history, but he is also so loveable, sweet, a velcro to your side dog and honestly unbelievably loyal. I know that if anyone posed a threat he would protect without hesitation. He is really coming along in his training and will be one I will have a hard time letting go, but I can't keep them all! He deserves so much more than I can give him personally, especially with constant fosters in and out of my home. He deserves all the love and affection that he didn't get his first 2 years. He deserves to be someone's best friend!
