About Harley

Adoption Fee: 250
Lab
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

We are looking to place Harley within a 4 hour radius of Washington, DC. He would do best in a rural or suburban area as opposed to an urban or congested area. He loves to go on walks and would do best with a person/family who can get him out twice a day for 1.5 to 2 miles each walk. While he does not need a fenced yard, he would need to be on a leash any time he goes outside. He is not loyal enough to have off-leash. Children in the home or that come to visit should be at least 14 years old and have common sense. Harley doesn't do well with too much activity or noise in the house. It stresses him out so a quiet and calm home would suit him better. We have listed Harley as being not good with other dogs. He is currently being fostered with 2 other Labs but it took a while to get him to the point where he is relatively trustworthy around them. He would not do well with dominant dogs (male or female). He'd be best as an only dog where he can hog all of the attention. He is a resource guarder around other dogs. He is NOT good with cats or small critters. He has a high prey drive and will chase anything that runs (including deer on walks). Harley is a big boy with a strong personality and needs an experienced dog owner. He LOVES people but can be head-strong but does well with positive reinforcement. Application form: https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/E53LXc4bsw6r997fuK4 Harley neutered male birth date: 01/03/2012 (8 years old) size: large. Currently weighs 95 pounds and is tall and lanky Between walks, Harley is a couch potato and can handle being home alone for hours at a time. He does not have separation anxiety but will be vocal when he alerts on something. He does not like to be outside on his own - he wants to be close to his human(s). Harley is fully house-broken, crate trained (although he does not need to be crated when no one is home) and walks well on the leash. He does have a high prey drive and will want to try to chase anything that moves on walks so he needs a physically strong handler. Harley needs an experienced dog owner that understands how to handle a large, dominant and head-strong dog that really wants to please. Harley is a lover-lab that will be very loyal to the right person who will be consistent and fair with him. He is an attention hog and gets jealous. Although he is currently being fostered with 2 other dogs, he has to be managed to minimize the risk of conflict. Harley is up-to-date on all vaccines (distemper combination, Rabies, Lyme, Bordatella, Lepto, canine influenza), is micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and up-to-date on monthly preventatives.
