Smokey is a goofy dog who just wants to play all day and be with you through everything. He loves attention, both receiving and giving. If you want a handsome new best friend, then Smokey is your guy. Come visit him at Staten Island ACC! A staff member writes: Smokey was brought to ACC due to resource guarding issues that led to a few bite incidents. He does have guarding issues but has been friendly and playful with staff. He was surrendered to SIACC due to resource guarding resulting in multiple bite incidences. Smokey previously lived with 5 adults. He is playful around strangers. His behavior around children, dogs or cats is unknown to the former owner. His previous owner stated that Smokey doesn't have any behavioral issues. Smokey will lunge and bite when any food, treat, or toy is taken from him. Smokey does not like having baths and will bite if made uncomfortable. Need a experience person who understands guarding issues , other then his guarding issues Smokey is a great dog and does not deserve to die Smokey barks when an unfamiliar person approaches the home, yard, previous owner, or a family member. Yes Medical Notes Issue with right eyelid For a New Family to Know Smokey is described as affectionate, excitable, and playful. When in the home, Smokey is the type to follow you around seeking attention. Smokey likes chew of toys. Smokey was kept mostly indoors and was fed dry & wet dog food. According to previous owner, Smokey is house-trained and would rarely have any accidents. Smokey usually goes to the bathroom on the grass or on the cement sidewalk. When left alone in the home or yard, Smokey would be well-behaved. For exercise, he enjoyed brisk walks with the previous owner or playing in the yard. On the leash, Smokey can pull hard and would never be let off the leash except in the yard. INTAKE NOTES - DATE OF INTAKE, 27-Mar-2020: Behavior during intake: Smokey was distracted and attempting to pull previous owner out of the care center. He did not interact with counselor or acknowledge counselor. He was whining and pulling on leash. Appeared a little anxious and tense. His tail was up and body seemed neutral. Due to precaution, previous owner was asked to place Smokey in the kennel.
