About Schnapps, Adopted

Boxer
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

'I'd like everyone to meet Schnapps. Schnapps is a very sweet 3-4 year old girl. Schnapps is housebroken and crate trained. She's not a big fan of going into her crate some times, but once she's in she's perfectly fine. Although we will never know for sure, I'm guessing that Schnapps has been through some pretty horrible stuff. She has come a long way since first arriving but she still has some emotional scars and will need a special home. Schnapps gets scared of loud noises and raised voices. So I think it would be best for her to be in a home without very young children. She would never hurt anyone, it would just be too stressful for her. She gets scared and will run and hide if you pick up a fly swatter or approach her suddenly with something in your hands. Due to her nervousness she doesn't always do well on a leash. When something startles her, her reaction is to drop to the ground and it takes a while before she will get back up. So apartment living will probably not be an option for her. She does very well here in our back yard and as soon as you call her to come in, she's booking it into the house. LOL I don't think Schnapps was ever around other dogs and if she was I don't think it was a good experience for her. She does ok with our pups, but isn't a fan of them being in her space when she's laying down. She's never snapped at them, but she let's them know that they are too close. This behavior is something we have been working on, and she has gotten much better. I think she would be fine in a home with another dog that is calm and quiet like her. If you are looking for a playmate for another dog, Schnapps probably isn't the one for you. As with many boxers, Schnapps has had some mast cell tumors removed. So she will need to always be on Benadryl and she will need to have any new lumps checked by a vet. Please don't let any of this scare you away from Schnapps. If you are looking for a sweet, loving girl who just wants to lay on the couch next to you and be loved, Schnapps is your girl. If you want someone who is so very excited to see you when you come home, Schnapps is your girl. And if you want a boxer that despite whatever horror she went through, still just wants to love and please you, then Schnapps is definitely your girl.'
