About Heartleigh

Heartleigh is a shy, timid approximately 1 �%BD year old Kelpie mix looking for her forever home. She is a small girl weighing a little over 20 lbs. Heartleigh came to us from the county shelter after she had been trapped on the reservation. She has been in foster care since early December learning to trust humans. The following is from her foster Mom. Heartleigh has been flourishing in our home. Initially it took 4 days for her to allow me to touch her. On day 5 I was able to remove her harness. Day 6 she jumped in our bed for petting. It was not until day 14 that I was allowed to hold her in my lap and touch her entire body (in our bed once again). Day 17 she took treats from my hand. I believe she did not bond with any human on the reservation. It was the many dogs in our household that gave her the confidence to understand touch would not hurt her. For this very reason Heartleigh must go to a home with another playful, happy, confident dog(s). This is how she learned to trust me. She has only allowed my husband to touch her once but she does take food from him. She is fearful of men but I believe in the right home with a lot of love and patience she will learn to trust men as well as women. There was some type of trauma to her face as she is missing several teeth on one side of her mouth and she does have some scars on her face. Heartleigh has become one of the sweetest, loving, happy dogs that we have ever fostered. She will require a lot of love and most importantly patience to achieve what I have with her. She loves attention, loves to be touched and have her belly rubbed. She loves to play with other playful dogs. Heartleigh has never had an accident in our home. She is housebroken, uses the dog door and rides quietly in her kennel when in the truck. She is not destructive but has been known to grab a flip flop or two. I can't even go to the mailbox without her greeting me with such excitement you'd have thought I'd been gone all day. Due to Heartleigh's timid and fearful nature I am not recommending she go to a home with children. She will require more than one meet and greet. I know it sounds like she comes with a lot of baggage, and she does, but she is worth every minute of the time spent gaining her love and trust. Heartleigh is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and vet checked. Her adoption fee is $150 and includes 30 days of free pet insurance and a free vet visit.
