Location: Foster Home in Rocky Mount, NC Adoption Fee:$200 Date into Rescue: 03/21/2019 Reason for being in rescue: Hollis was found as a stray in NC. CPR pulled him from the shelter. Special Needs: Hollis has some vision impairment and will be evaluated for his candidacy for cataract surgery. What kind of home would be best for me: Hollis is a mature guy looking for an active, mature home. You can tell from the photos that this boy needs some caloric restriction and a more active life. Hollis is also best outside of a crate. He needs a very experienced owner. He will growl and snarl if you try to put him into a crate, take food from him, or put a leash on when he isn't ready to walk. Hollis is an independent boy looking for a home that will accept his independence. What is my personality like: Hollis is a sweet old man. He doesn't let his age, or his heft slow him down. He loves everyone, and we don't think he ever met a treat he didn't love. He walks fairly well on a lead, but should use a harness due to his cough when pressure is applied to his throat. He also likes to be carried, we wouldn't want to burn off all those cookies. Hollis rides well in a car, he sniffed around for a few min and stood on the center console to say hi. Hollis likes to be the center of attention, especially when treats are involved! If you ignore him, he woofs at you, and if you still don't pay him attention, he will woof and stamp his little feet. Occasionally, when he hears something outside, he'll bark a few times, but placing your hand on his back and telling him to be quiet usually does the trick. Grooming isn't an issue with him, he doesn't really mind. He will pick up a toy every now and again, but mainly likes to be scratched. If you can believe it, he will gobble down his food and look for more, meal time is best time for Hollis! Hollis will be best as an only dog. He really needs a fenced yard where he can walk and enjoy the sun without the confines of putting on a harness and leash to go outside. Hollis needs an experienced owner that can teach Hollis boundaries. How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly Tips and Tidbits: Estimated Birthdate: 2/25/2009. Hollis has a heart as big as his overweight body. This precious chunk charms everyone he meets! House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
