About Shelby

Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Special Case Shelby Shelby is a 2 year old spayed female. She is for the most part an unsocialized dog. We have been working with her for 9 months. She is now at the point where she will come near us when she's called but only up to about 5 feet away (fearful of being caught). She only wants to be outside. When we have been able to get her in the house, she is the sweetest girl; always wants to be pet, and wants to be right beside us... until she get anxious and starts to pace to be let back outside. On some cold nights she will actually paw the door and come right in. We have been working with her for 9 months and although we have made small progress it's been slow. We need to find her a new permanent home as she has started to stray further and further off our one acre. The underground dog fence people have advised us she is not currently a candidate for a collar as she is not socialized enough to understand the training and therefore the collar would be cruel, serving no purpose. We cannot have a regular fence. She would love a farm. She needs someone who understands she's going to be quite the project. She LOVES kids. She was wonderful with our other dogs. She would not hurt a fly. She does great on a leash. She will not come in the house for 3-10 days at a time, but will sit and watch you from the door interested, but too nervous to let her guard down. Let us know if you know someone who would love a lifetime with this special case Shelby.
