About Blackie

Meet gorgeous blue-eyed Blackie! He is a 2 year old, 8 1/2 pound Dachshund mix who came to us from the shelter. We don't know his history, but Blackie clearly has stranger fear. When he is faced with a new person, he barks and acts like he wants to bite, although he hasn't. Once you gain his trust you would never believe he would act that way. His foster mom used food to gain his friendship and, after he decided she was ok, he became a great dog who loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is definitely a lap dog, but can display some lap possessiveness towards the other dogs. His foster family is working on that with him and he's doing much better. They are also working with him to break his habit of getting under your feet! He plays with toys and the other dogs in his foster home. He has not been cat tested and should not go to a home with kids. Blackie seems to be housebroken and only had one accident in the house on his first night. He is good on a leash, but a fenced yard is recommended. His new family will want to be careful coming in and out of the home as he has tried to dart out the door. Blackie is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped with lifetime registration.
