Animal ID: 88137 Name: Bella Age: 3 Years 1 Month 1 Week (approx) Bella is currently at our Brooklyn Care Center and is available ONLY THROUGH AN ACC NEW HOPE PARTNER. Bella arrived to us as a surrender in early February following an incident with the other resident dog. When the owner The owner stated that she woke up hearing the dogs fighting and her wife went to where the dogs were and saw that they were fighting with one another. The owner stated that her wife told her that Bella Rushed toward the other dog in the home and held on to her leg. The owner's wife had to pull Bella them off. This was the first time that Bella had bitten the other dog. The owner stated within the last year the other resident dog (large mixed breed) passed away and ever since then Bella's behavior deteriorated. Prior to that she would play with the large dog and didn't pay much attention to the small do. But after the large dog passed she began increasingly seeking out the dog and growling at her whenever someone entered the home. The owner stated that Bella is usually neutral around other dogs when being walked, she will just sit and watch them but will not growl or snap at them. Due to the concerning behaviors that Bella has shown during playgroup in conjunction with concerns noted in the previous home that resulted in a bite, we feel that Bella should be the only resident dog and not visit dog parks. The Behavior Department recommends that she be socialized in a more controlled setting until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Bella associate dogs with things she enjoys like toys or treats. Due to the severity of Bella's bite towards the other resident dog in the home, we feel as though she would be best set up to succeed if placed with an experienced rescue partner; force-free, reward-based training only is advised. Due to Bella's observed timidity, we feel as though she may be best set up to succeed in a home without young children at this time. If you are interested in a dog that is labeled 'New Hope Only' - please indicate in the comments section that you would be willing to foster for a New Hope partner who pulls the dog.
