This 7 year old hunting dog mix boy found as a stray has been at our shelter for a long time. When he first arrived, he got startled because someone had to examine his private parts and he bit them. That put him in quarantine for 2 weeks. Then a staff member tried to remove an object from his mouth and he bit again--another 2 weeks of isolation. Aside from these reactions to being bothered, he is an easygoing guy and a favorite of the volunteer dog walkers. We're saying he would need a quiet, calm environment with adults in order for it to be a good fit. We are a small, local rural shelter with limited resources; closest big city is Pittsburgh. We cannot transport and do require adopters to appear in person plus bring any other dog in the home for a meet and greet. At most other shelters, OREO would have been euthanized. The staff and volunteers think he is a good dog, despite his checkered past. He just doesn't want anyone getting up in his business!
