About Copper

Hi, there! My name is Copper, and I am soooooo happy to meet you! I am hanging out in a foster home with some great people and doggies, but I want to find a family of my very own to spoil me for the rest of my days! Copper is an approximately two-year-old Chiweenie. She is spayed, weighs approximately 15 lb., and is UTD on vaccines. She was surrendered in Alabama and came to us by way of a friend down south. Unfortunately, her previous owners did not keep Copper on preventive, and she tested positive for heartworms. She has received a six-month ProHeart injection and a prescription for doxycycline to combat the worms, and will need to be rechecked in 6 months and may need a subsequent injection until she tests negative. Our vet recommended this treatment method because of Copper's high energy level as this does not require her to be kept calm and on restricted activity during her treatment. It is also not as likely to make her sick and she will make a full recovery! With this treatment she is also able to go to her forever home sooner so she can begin her new forever life. Copper is high energy and loves to play. She is crate trained and is working on house training and leash manners in her foster home, so she will need to continue to work on those skills. Copper loves other dogs but can tend to try to be in charge and hog the attention of her people, so she needs the other dogs in her home to be tolerant of her being pushy.
