Rottweiler
Age: Adult

Meet Darla Meet Darla! This little darlin' is a 7-year-old spayed female looking for a quiet home to call her own. Darla currently lives with her original family. She's been a well-loved dog, although has a serious case of 'stranger danger' that has added an extra layer of stress to their busy lives (two small children - age 2 and 6, new jobs, new to area). Since they moved here from out of state last year, Darla has been extra difficult to manage, with fewer people she knows here and the children getting older and more active. Darla is not a mean dog, but she's very concerned and alert when people she doesn't know come to visit (including the baby sitter), with loud, intimidating barking and growling from her crate. She's actually very sweet and loving when she gets to know people, but it's difficult to get past her guarded manner. Her owner has made the difficult decision to rehome her, knowing that they don't have any spare time or in the foreseeable future to work through this. Darla would do best in a quiet home with just one or two adults who are experienced with Rottweilers and don't have a lot of visitor traffic. While she's good with her two children and her little Shih Tzu sister, she's not good with children or other dogs in general, so needs a home without other dogs or children, where she can be the princess. She is house trained and crate trained, rides well in the car, and is well-mannered with solid basic obedience skills (sit, down, stay). Darla loves to go for walks; she's leash trained and walks nicely on lead. She does have hip dysplasia but gets around fine and is pain free with managed care (Adequan injections as needed). She's a mellow girl who just wants to snuggle and be loved, and would enjoy daily walks and maybe even learning new skills and confidence with nose work classes or barn hunt.
