About Gunner

Adoption Fee: $200
Treeing Walker Coonhound / Dalmatian
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Can anyone help with rehoming our one year old coonhound mix? He's such a good boy, he just doesn't do well with children 6 and under (like very small children). His name is Gunner, he's beautiful and such a loving boy. Gunner is extremely cuddly and playful. Also being a hound mix he is vocal when he plays or hears something outside lol. He loves being wrapped up or covered up in a blanket while snuggling. He loves a few games of fetch, tug of war and enjoys his femur bones to chew. Gunner picks up on things very quickly and don't be surprised if he watches your routines and tags along while you do them. He knows all basic commands and tricks: 'sit, up, down, off, leave it/drop it, spin, go to your house'. He is housebroken and uses a bell when he needs to go (he figured that out by himself haha). Story of that is we had Christmas bells up on the door handle, he went right over to it, rang it and we knew what he needed. He will also ring it if he wants water-so say that he just cane in from outside and he rings it again...odds are he needs something to drink ٪ the food we give them is heart to tail complete nutrition at aldis. It's $9.99 for a 24 lbs bag and he LOVES it! We buy them the same brand treats at Aldis as well, those run $1.75 for a whole variety box of flavors. Gunner was neutered in February. We've had him since November. His monthly preventatives we give him are interceptor plus, given every month and bravecto, which is given every 3 months. He's due for the bravecto again in May. He's up to date on everything else (vaccines, flea/tick, heart worm) and will come with all of his belongings to get him started in his new fur-ever home. The items we will be sending are his cage, collar, favorite bed, favorite toys, his water and food bowl. I will also give you his sweaters which he loves to wear%9D%A4%8F Maybe you can take family photos with him, since we weren't able to. This breaks our heart because he's not a bad dog whatsoever but doesn't care for young children and that's not feasible for us since we have two small children-eventually we will be having more down the road. It's not fair to him either that he can't have the best life possible because we have small children who get on his nerves. He does wonderful with other dogs, so that won't be an issue at all but definitely doing a meet and greet wouldn't hurt. So we could see how they play beforehand. He has bit both of our kids both provoked and unprovoked. We are training him, also going to training in Sandusky. Gunner is doing very well as far as commands, playing, and socializing. Our trainer advised us it's actually quite common for dogs not to like small children and that he needs a home without them. He's such a good boy and a cuddle bug, this truly is one of the hardest things we've ever done as he is a part of our family. We attributed his dislike for young children due to the fact of how he was raised which was barely at all. When we got him, he didn't even know what toys were or how to play so to speak. He has come so far but we can't have him around the small kids anymore. He does great with older kids/preteens/teens. He will need continued discipline; a family or couple who can walk him regularly and play with him like he deserves since he still technically is a puppy and has a lot of energy. Back story: He was rescued and nursed back to health from a friend of ours in which she just was basically fostering him for the time being till she found a family for him. That family ended up being us back in November. When she originally took Gunner to the vet (affordable pet clinic in Wakeman) they told her he had been kept and raised in a crate. His back legs were atrophied where he had hardly any muscle bc of staying in a crate all day everyday. That has changed dramatically since we've had him. He'll willingly go into his crate in which we call his 'house'. We will be asking a fee of $200 to ensure he goes to a loving family who can take care of him and I'm sorry if you can't come up with the fee, maybe we can work something else out. I'm not sure. We also understand with this shutdown and virus stuff going on money might be tight right now. We can keep him until we find a family but he deserves someone who can give him all he needs. I have attached pictures and videos of him. Please message me if you'd like to do a meet and greet. We live in Norwalk but are willing to meet for a said meet and greet.
