They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them homeless and unwanted! Cody, at 4 months old and 20 lbs (estimated to be full grown at about 30-40 lbs) was a victim of circumstance through no fault of his own. Cody was found abandoned on a freezing New Mexico street, and ultimately turned into a high kill shelter that was already very short on space. Luck was with this very sweet pup, as Farfel's managed to scoop in a get him just in time! Cody is now safe with one of our fosters, but searching for his forever home! Cody is healthy, cuddly and, while a little shy as any puppy can be, he warmed up to his foster very quick and was engaging and friendly. It's also very important that being a puppy, Cody gets the opportunity to attend puppy kindergarten, and obedience training. Cody is an incredibly beautiful puppy...with a stunning and shiny black coat that is soft as cotton. His hair is so soft that you just want to stroke him and tell him how beautiful he is. Cody will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition. A daily salmon oil supplement along with 5 star food is recommended for excellent general health and to keep his coat silky-soft and very healthy. Our guess is that Cody is either a dachshund and a black lab mix, or a corgi and black lab mix! He is short and long, leading us to believe he has dachshund or corgi in him, and the rest of him looks like a beautiful black lab! Since Cody is just a baby, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion - he will form firm bonds with his people (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through the love of an excellent family. Farfel's feels that it's very important for these great families to attend positive reinforcement/force-free puppy socialization class followed by level 1 group obedience classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a truly bonded dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. We feel so strongly about every puppy being given this training opportunity that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't choose training. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force-free trainers in your area. We're very open to Cody finding his forever home with a retired couple or an individual with lots of free time and energy to train and enjoy a young puppy. Cody is described as incredibly sweet, engaging and snuggly. We'd prefer a home without kids, or with older kids for this sweet guy where the energy is calmer and voices are more gentle. We aren't open to Cody being left alone for long hours while his family works full-time outside of the home. He's a sensitive puppy that thrives on the companionship of his people. Therefore retirees, those who work from home, part-time or at a pet-friendly workplace would be perfect for this very loving and loyal best friend. Cody will be up to date on his vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy and well-balanced puppies. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Cody's neuter and microchip if one of our rescue vets is used. Cody will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 3/28. Applications are currently being accepted for this gorgeous and very sweet and loving best friend. Apps can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Cody, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
