About Piper

Adoption Fee: $75
Treeing Walker Coonhound
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Very sweet girl, loves to be close and snuggle in bed or on the couch. Great with all people and kids, great with smaller dogs, but a little fearful of bigger dogs (a docile dog would be fine). Loves food, loves to go on walks. We took her from animal control about 6 months ago (they found her on the streets). She was covered in ticks, malnourished and scared, so we gave her the best home we could, but a job caused us to move from Virginia to Missouri and our living situation has changed quite a bit. She has a few 'mental' problems, I guess you'd say, that could probably be improved with someone who has time and is patient and willing to understand her needs. She's a Coonhound, so everything we read about them fits her perfectly....including 'counter surfing' and following her nose outside. She will escape a fence if she sees an easy way, but has never actually climbed a fence. She doesn't really like to be outside on her own for long. She will go and do her business (in a fenced yard) and immediately come back and jump at the door to be let back in. The only reason we need to find her a new home is because we rent and have an apartment with neighbors and no yard/fenced area at all. She also has separation anxiety which causes her to bark when we leave. It may only last a few minutes, but there's no way to predict how long she might go. And then, if she's really upset that you're leaving, she will start to scratch at doors, which we can't have happen in a rental. We have tried to crate her while we are gone, but that has led to other problems which we would be happy to discuss further. We don't want to scare anyone away from her, but we want to be honest about her issues. She is still the sweetest pup, and will let you hug and love on her all day. But she's also just happy to take a nap next to you and be at peace. She never barks on walks, she doesn't even bark at people through the window. Her barking is only attributed to lack of attention, which we just don't have the time to give her with work and errands, etc. She would do well in a house with lots of people, or even a single person home, as long as she is given boundaries and love. She's hard to resist when she buries her head in your chest. And she also has a cat silhouette on her side...too precious!! Please call and ask about her if you're at all curious, we would love to find her an amazing home and want you to know everything.
